An anchor.

There are different phases while going down. The specific ones to be talked about below are the drowning phases and the anchoring phases.

There are situations where we get stuck in a loop and cannot find a way out of it. We keep throwing the kitchen sink at everything but still keep getting engulfed by the situation. As a result, we might start going down; maybe due to the guilt of not being able to enforce a change. This might be classified into our drowning phase but do note that in this phase we are free to move about freely towards anything without holding onto anything. So, there is a possible chance of arriving at a point from where our constant hustle ultimately leads us towards the right path to reach our destination.

There are times when the world thinks that we are drowning and that we are finished; when we are thought of to be a spent force. We then put our ship (read: present) on halt and happily go down to cling onto the seabed (read: past) thinking that we will be pulled out sooner or later by the chain of realities but it so happens that our still water gets disturbed all of a sudden because of the movement of the ship due to striking demands of the present. We still wait to be pulled out to meet our present demands while the ship is already on the move. But we being focused on the seabed tend to let the ship pass by. Then either the chain breaks and we never get on with the ship or even if we somehow manage to move on from the past, we end up being in the phase of trying to catch up. Undoubtedly, the later phase is better than the former. But the best option to be with the ship has been lost.

Drowning phases and anchoring phases can both lead to better possibilities if things are done appropriately at the right time. Still, if we need to choose between both of them, drowning phase gets a nod in my opinion. In the drowning phase, we look at things from the perspective of a ship whereas in the anchoring phase, we do the same from the perspective of an anchor connected to a ship. Obviously, being a driver keeps us more involved while being in a car.
